He was Director of the Remote Sensing Center for Applied Research at University of Cocody in Abidjan (1999-2010)

Director of postgraduate African school of Remote Sensing (1999-2010)

Dean of the school of Earth Sciences at University Cocody. (2010-2012)

Prof. Affian has served on numerous national bodies and committees; Such as (i) Chair of the national interministeriel scientific committee in charge of coastal erosion issue ; (ii) member of the board of the national e-learning school etc.

At international level, he has regularly taken part in UNESCO Assembly as chair of the national scientific committee for several years

He had participede as head of the ivorian delegation in the Concil and the assembly of IOC-UNESCO bodies since 2005 up today

For 7 years he was vice-president of I-GOOS in charge of capacity building in Africa

For 6 years he was member of GOOS Steering committee

Since 2020 : Coordinator of GOOS Africa

Since 2021 he is Chair of IOCAFRICA in 2021.

He is author or co-author of more than 100 scientific publications in various fields focusing among others on the development of integrated coastal zone management, coastal erosion, sea surface temperature, sea color, bathymetry and environment studies based on remote sensing and GIS.

He has experience in geospatial big data processing, advance image classification techniques, image texture analysis and land cover and use mapping and monitoring with particular attention on agriculture and food security.

Prof. Affian is member of the advising board of the UN decade of ocean science for sustainable development.

In his research, he investigates environmental issues important to society, by employing state-of-the-art machine learning approaches in geospatial applications.
